Plantae

It is often considered that we are distinct from our surroundings. Capitalist societies have conditioned us to believe that the natural world is our property and we can reap the rewards without any consequences. However, as is becoming more and more prevalent, this is not the case. The survival of the human race relies on the natural world. We have an inextricable relationship with our environment and perhaps by encouraging simple physical interaction with plants, a more respectful attitude towards them can be established.

A jungle of plants produces an ethereal soundscape when interacted with. 12 large plants are arranged close to each other in the middle of the space. Individuals are encouraged to enter the artificial forest through passageways that lead to two seats. Once inside, audience members can play the plants like instruments by touching the leaves. Alligator clips attached to each plant act as capacitive touch sensors that sense when the leaf is touched. The individuals playing the plants can listen to the soundscape through a pair of headphones hanging above each seat.
